Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church

Youth Workers Academy hosts training day

10/5/2018

Youth Workers Academy will host its first weekend session of 2018-19 on Nov. 2-4.

The Academy will also host a one-day training for youth workers on Nov. 3 who are interested in learning more about what the Academy has to offer.

“This academy is a great way to train up and coming youth workers in the Wesleyan spirit,” said Derrek Belase, director of discipleship for the Oklahoma Conference. “We are thankful to the Academy for sponsoring this youth worker’s training opportunity to give not only a great training opportunity to youth workers around the state but also a glimpse into the wonderful training which is a part of the Academy.”

The one-day training will be held at the Great Hall in the Student Union at Oklahoma City University. Registration will take place at 9:30 a.m. with sessions running from 10-12:30 p.m. and from 1:30-5 p.m. The one-day cost is $25, and those who register by Oct. 29 will have lunch provided.

Guest speaker Teresa Capps will lead a workshop during the one-day training. Capps has spent the last 35 years providing advocacy and mental health services to children, adolescents, and their families and caregivers.

Registration for the year-long Youth Workers Academy is still open. For details such as cost and dates, or to register, visit www.okumc.org/youthworkersacademy.
