Verdigris UMC Celebrates 100 Years

Members and friends of Verdigris UMC gathered April 22-23 to celebrate the church’s 100th anniversary. Saturday’s events included a community cookout and a historical showcase highlighting special moments over the last century. Sunday’s service included a sermon from Bishop Jimmy Nunn on the marks of a great church. Worshipers also gathered for a meal and fellowship on Sunday afternoon, sharing memories and fun facts about the church. Special guests also included Council Oak District Superintendent Connie Gibson, four former VUMC pastors, and descendants of VUMC’s founders, along with their families. Celebrations concluded with a bell ringing of the church’s traditional bell, recently restored and newly mounted in honor of the anniversary. Looking back at 100 years of history, attendees turned toward the future with excitement, focusing on plans for new and growing ministries to serve the Verdigris community and beyond.
