AC 2020 plans to be finalized

Plans are still being finalized for the 2020 virtual Annual Conference session which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21. The clergy session will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20. A detailed letter will be sent the week of Oct. 5 to members of the conference (lay and clergy) as well as posted on the website. You can find the annual conference information hub at www.okumc.org/annual_conference. If you have questions about Annual Conference, please direct them to ac2020@okumc.org and they will be answered as soon as possible.

Churches and CCLI/CVLI coverage

The Oklahoma Conference announced the possibility of CCLI/CVLI licensing coverage being removed from the 2021 Annual Conference Budget in September.

CCLI and CVLI coverage is currently a part of the Conference budget and will be voted on for removal from the 2021 budget during the virtual 2020 Annual Conference on Nov. 20-21.

Since 2016 the conference has covered the cost of the basic CCLI/CVLI licensing process for all local United Methodist Churches through blanket coverage funded through an apportionment. The Conference Communications Ministry oversees the copyright licensing of all our conference churches for the use of downloading music, reproducing song sheets, projecting lyrics on a screen and showing movies for worship services, daycare centers, and after school programs through two companies: Church Copyright License International (CCLI) and Church Video License International (CVLI).

The CCLI/CVLI license allows the church to produce and play copyrighted music and video in local churches and related day care ministries (live streaming and Song Select require an additional license that the local church must purchase individually).

Coverage will continue until January 2021. CCLI will send every church a letter about how to continue coverage. If your church purchased an additional livestream or SongSelect coverage earlier this year, CCLI will credit your account and help you renew all plans at the same time.

Churches will have to apply for a new CVLI license as that will not automatically transfer over to each church. If your church shows videos in your building to youth or children ministries you need a CVLI license.

If your church performs any copyrighted music or liturgy during your in-person Sunday services (including the United Methodist Hymnal) you will need either CCLI or OneLicense coverage.

If your church only shares the sermon online, you don’t need the extra CCLI streaming coverage, but if any music (even hymns) are streamed, you need the extra license.

OneLicense is a company that offers similar services to CCLI for music and live-stream coverage, but doesn’t cover the video license that CVLI covers.
