OKUMC to transition to new safe sanctuary program in Jan. 2022
The Oklahoma Conference will transition to a new safe sanctuary program in Janurary 2022.
MinistrySafe is a safety system to help prevent the sexual abuse of children and youth in the church. The online training system and how-to tutorials are user-friendly, according to Rebekah Hasty, asociate director of connectional ministry for program and development.
“This is going to be a transition for our local churches, but one that is important and vital,” Hasty said. “MinistrySafe will make this training easier for our congregations.”
MinistrySafe helps ministry leaders understand the risk of abuse and establish an effective safety system built on awareness training, skillful screening, policies and procdures, background checks, and monitoring and oversight. The program was started by attorneys Gregory Love and Kimberlee Norris to meet the legal standards of care. The system also reduces the risk of sexual abuse by creating preventative measures that fit each individual ministry’s needs.
More information about how this will impact the Oklahoma Conference and its ministries will be shared as it is available. For more information on MinistrySafe, visit https://ministrysafe.com.
