Mission u returns after two-year hiatus

8/17/2022

United Women of Faith (UWF), formerly United Methodist Women, held its first Mission u program in two years on July 21-23 at Oklahoma City University. The program is sponsored by Oklahoma UMF and the Oklahoma Conference Mission and Ministry Team. Rev. Greg Tener served as the dean.

This year’s studies focused on Luke 13. Unlike previous years, the Mission u curriculum model included one for adults, one for children, and one for youth. Five children, 15 youth and 50 adults attended the Oklahoma UWF event. The adult course was creditable as an advanced Lay Servant training class or as one continuing education credit for clergy.

For adults: “Who Can We Be Together” by Candace Simpson brings participants deeper into Jesus’ teachings to explore what it means to be in community.

For youth: “Community in the Midst of Challenging Times” by Kenya Cummings will help young people interpret scripture for today’s world, and deepen community connections through intergenerational dialogue.

For children: “Our Growing Tree” by Ilka Vega uses appropriate transformative activities and spiritual practices to help children discover joy and empowerment in the scriptures and find support in their journeys of self-love and community building.
