Health insurance costs can be reduced with a few simple steps
As part of the health insurance agreement the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church has with its benefits provider, Wespath, is a built-in incentive to develop - or keep - healthy habits through Virgin Pulse.
These healthy habits include participating in a health check questionnaire to gauge wellbeing; having a screening blood draw to measure overall health; and activities that improve wellness.
In addition to all the benefits of a healthy mind and body, these programs can also help families’ bank accounts.
The program is designed to reduce the cost of insurance and offer other financial incentives, just for staying healthy.
To avoid a higher deductible in the next year, insured adults - clergy or staff plus spouse - should complete a health check in their Virgin Pulse account.
Additionally, individuals can participate in yearly screenings to check for health risks like heart disease and diabetes.
Both programs must be completed before August 31.
More credits are available to those who take advantage of wellness programs like the Employment Assistance Program; live coaching for physical activity; self-guided journeys for sleep and diet; and chronic disease management programs.
Other wellness opportunities include MDLIVE Behavioral Health, which allows video chats with mental health professionals; or 50 percent off Weight Watchers.
To learn more, access your account at virginpulse.com/login or find the Virgin Pulse app.
The Pension and Benefits office will host a health screening 8 a.m. to Noon, August 15, in the Woodworth Room at the conference office. This includes the annual blood draw.
Appointments must be made through Virgin Pulse; minimal walk-ins will be available. To learn more, contact Madison Amber at mgonzalez@okumc.org.
