Clergy renewal retreat scheduled for October
The Oklahoma Conference will host a clergy renewal retreat at Canyon Camp on Oct. 15-16. The retreat invites clergy to “Come Away,” disconnect from the world, and connect with God.
Speakers include Rev. Rob Harris, Rev. Max Rudd and Rev. Susan Southall. The retreat will be hosted by Rev. Diana Pruitt, Rev. Nancy Johnson and Judy Horne, who will also provide music with Kevin Wilkerson. Spiritual directors will be available for prayer and personal guidance.
The retreat takes its theme from Mark 6:30-32 – “The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, ‘Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.’ For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.”
“(Clergy) are burning the candles on both ends and learning as they go,” said Johnson, the conference coordinator for leadership development. “We understand that not everyone will feel comfortable participating, but for those that do, we want to make this space available.”
Safety measures will be in place to protect both camp staff and retreat participants. Masks will be required, social distancing will be in place, rooms will be single occupancy unless occupied by spouses, and all guests are asked to bring their own bed linens, towels, and lawn chairs for sitting around the campfire. The campground will also require participants to sign a COVID-19 statement and have their temperature taken. Because internet is limited in the canyon, there will not be an option for remote participation.
The retreat will cost $50 per person or $70 per couple. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Friday, Oct. 16. Registration and payment are due by Oct. 1. Register online at okumc-reg.brtapp.com/ClergyRenewalRetreat2020.
