Breon announced as new Lake Country District Superintendent
Rev. John Breon, pastor of the Durant-First and Caddo churches in Durant, will be the new Lake Country Superintendent. He will take the place of Rev. Larry Bauman who has served as the district superintendent for the last eight years. Breon’s appointment will begin on July 1.
Bishop James Nunn thanked Bauman for his eight years of service on the Oklahoma Conference Cabinet. He also thanked Rev. Breon for agreeing to serve as the Lake Country district superintendent.
“We’re so very thankful for Bauman’s service for the past eight years,” Nunn said. “Both the cabinet and the Lake Country district have benefitted from his leadership, and we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
Breon earned his bachelor’s degree at Oral Roberts University, master of divinity at Perkins School of Theology, and doctor of ministry degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. He was hired as church staff in Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri before his first appointment as conference clergy in 1985. Since then, Breon has pastored churches in Gene Autry, Springer, Helena, Beaver, and Eufaula. His current appointment in Durant began in 2011.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to serve the church as superintendent of the Lake Country District,” Breon said. “We have lots of connections with the district through serving many years in the McAlester and Ardmore Districts that combined to form Lake Country. I hope to help churches and pastors receive God’s vision for the church and experience God’s empowering to be the church.”
“Because of his long service and familiarity with other lay and ministry leaders in the area, Breon is a great fit for the Lake Country District,” Nunn said. “We look forward to the impact his contributions will have on both the district and the conference as a whole.”
Breon’s appointment will be made official at the Oklahoma Annual Conference meeting which will be held on May 23-26.
