Resources -- Summer Camp and UMCOR worship bulletins
Oklahoma-based Engineers in Action (EIA) projects in Bolivia were selected by UMCOR to highlight in 2014 resources about programs related to World Water Day.
The Bolivia/Oklahoma Methodist Partnership spawned the EIA work in Bolivia, which delivers potable water to more than 65,000 people, according to David Stephenson of Tulsa.
The water and sanitation work of UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, recently became an emphasis separate from other health programs of the agency.
Mike Barbee said UMCOR-WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) chose to partner with EIA "because they incorporate approaches that UMCOR believes have the potential to sustain substantial impact." He is new UMCOR-WASH director.
Barber identified three key reasons for the agency’s grant support of EIA.
-
Bolivian-led. EIA is made up of local Bolivian engineers directing the work of outside partners to better serve communities.
-
Innovative. The nonprofit group designs appropriate technical solutions to tackle community-specific problems and equip people to manage.
-
Reaches the underserved. EIA works with poor, rural indigenous communities and helps them attain higher standards of service.
