UMWomen packing bags for 2014 Assembly
Thousands of United Methodist Women will converge on the Louisville, Ky., convention center April 25-27 for Assembly 2014. Oklahoma women will be among them.
Overflowing with worship and workshops, this gathering is held every four years.
Confident that every woman can make a tremendous difference, Assembly leaders chose "Make It Happen!" as theme, based on the Gospel story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people.
Special incentives encourage more younger women to attend. The Oklahoma Conference UMW awarded scholarships to two first-time attendees, according to President Cindy Hull.
A charter bus will transport some Oklahomans to the event, and some will travel individually.
Among the workshop topics:
• Reproductive and maternal health;
• Building an anti-human-trafficking network;
• Social justice as a spiritual pursuit;
• Race and immigration; and
• "Hate in the Hallways," about child bullies and cyberbullying.
