Christmas gifts, food donated to Skyline Urban Ministry
1/10/2014
The OCU community reached out again this year to those in need, through United Methodist-related Skyline Urban Ministries. Rita Himes, administrative assistant in the University-Church Relations office, coordinated gifts from many campus departments. These went to 25 low-income families — a total of 89 people of various ages — through OCU’s annual Christmas Grace program. Himes sent a campus-wide email announcement, and all of the recipients were adopted within two days. The Athletic Department also holds an annual Canned Food Drive to help stock the pantry at Skyline. The 2013 drive, conducted over a few months, collected a record-setting 11,940 pounds of food. Athletic Director Jim Abbott commented, “Serving our community feels better than any championship we have won! Our department is grateful to everyone on campus that pitched in to support this effort this year. Now, let’s get started on next year’s drive!” |
