Wellness walk honors laywoman

The inaugural Avery LaDay Walk for Wellness begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 20 at OKC-Quayle UMC. A health fair and free dental screenings also are planned that day.

Walkers will trek from the church, 5001 N. Everest Ave., to Temple Gardens Senior Living Center, where Mrs. LaDay lived her final years. She pioneered wellness walks and health fairs at Quayle UMC, where she was a member for more than 50 years.

The health fair begins at 9 a.m. and will include school sports physicals. Dental screenings will be 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Annual retreats focus on pensions

Each year, the Conference Board of Pension & Health Benefits offers financial retreats about pension benefits, to help clergy prepare for their retirement years.

The 2014 retreats are Sept. 25-26 at Canyon Camp, and Oct. 2-3 at Camp Egan.

Separate workshops are offered at each retreat, one for clergy who plan to retire within five years, and one for younger clergy, to boost their understanding of the changing environment of benefits. Spouses also are strongly encouraged to attend.

Personalized retirement pension projections will be available to all participants.
