VIM eager to receive abundant supplies for thousands of kits
The call to collect UMCOR supplies became an urgent cry when 2,000 empty school bags and 1,000 baby sweaters were delivered to the Oklahoma Volunteers In Mission office. Will churches and individuals donate enough items to fill all those bags and complete those layette kits? The deadline to drop off all supply gifts is 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the designated truck parked beside OCU’s Freede Center. All items must be new. On Wednesday, 200 volunteers will package the supplies, working assembly-line style at OCU’s Bass School of Music. They will be instructed by UMCOR personnel. The task is one of 11 hands-on mission projects on the Annual Conference schedule for that afternoon. This supply drive differs from past Annual Conferences, when completed kits were collected for UMCOR. The United Methodist Committee on Relief is the denomination’s humanitarian aid agency. Money donations also are welcomed by the OKVIM office, to purchase supplies and to cover shipping costs. For more information, contact Kristin Terrell-Wilkes in that office, kterrell-wilkes@okumc.org , 405-530-2029. Go to www.umcor.org to find a list of supplies for the kits. |
