Rev. William Jake "Bill" Higgins, 89, of Stigler died Aug. 1, 2012. Bill was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Murry Spur. He was ordained in 1961. His ministry began in 1952, and he retired in 1987. He pastored at Glencoe, Skedee/Blackburn, Union, Wellston, Ketchum/Cleora, Enid-Trinity, Purcell, OKC-Britton, Tulsa-Centenary, Lake Side, Perry, Poteau, Tulsa-Sheridan Avenue, Idabel, and Stigler; and he was associate at Stillwater-First. He was predeceased by his wife, Zula. Survivors include daughters Charlotte Idleman, Willene McKee, Darla Dunham, and Shanna Snyder; son Ron Higgins; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Service was Aug. 4 at Stigler-First UMC, with burial at Keota Cemetery. Lorene Doherty Kelly, 101, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Aug. 9, 2012. She was the widow of Rev. Dorsey John Kelly, whose career included district superintendency and the vice presidency of OCU. He died in 1995. Lorene was born Feb. 25, 1911, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She attended Oklahoma City University, where the couple met. They married in 1931. She was deeply involved in church activities during her lifetime. Survivors include daughters Carolyn Eckert and Joanne Emmons, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Services were held on Aug. 17 at Tulsa-Boston Avenue UMC and on Sept. 1 at Colorado Springs-First UMC. Oren Baden of Roosevelt died Aug. 16, 2012. He was the father of Rev. Ken Baden, pastor at Lawton-Wesley Chapel. Harvey Alford of Tyler, Texas, died Aug. 6, 2012. He was the father of Rev. Beverly Powell, a chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Patty Sue Dewitt of Tulsa died Aug. 3, 2012. She was the mother of Rev. Sharon Cochran of Tonkawa, pastor at Prairie Chapel UMC. Wedding Rev. Joel Thompson and Amanda Mitchell married on July 28, 2012, at Riverside Church in Norman. Rev. Thompson is pastor at Helena UMC. |
