Addiction Ministries offers training

Training for the Faith Partners program, for local-church leaders and teams, has been scheduled by the Conference’s Addiction Ministries.

  • On Aug. 24 in Oklahoma City, Leadership Training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Ministry Center, 1501 N.W. 24th St.

  • On Nov. 16-17, Team Training will be offered in Holliman Lodge at Camp Egan, near Tahlequah. Reservations are required for this location.

Using the Faith Partners model, congregations reach out through compassionate, lay-led teams to minister to individuals and families dealing with addictions. Teams are trained in prevention, early intervention, referral assistance, and recovery support and advocacy.Faith Partners helps a congregation develop a customized addiction ministry and create a safe, hospitable, and healing environment.

 COSROW to award book scholarships

Deadline is Sept. 15 for female ministry students to apply for book scholarships that will be awarded by the Oklahoma Conference Commission on the Status & Role of Women (COSROW). Those who apply also must be from the Oklahoma Conference. The online application is available on the Awards and Scholarships page at: http://www.okumc.org/pages/detail/733. The completed form can be emailed to Jeff Hiller, who chairs COSROW, at jahiller@clergy.okumc.org.  Or mail it to Rev. Hiller at Healdton-First UMC, where he is pastor.
