On May 29 and 30, Annual Conference volunteers grabbed sack lunches as they departed Boston Avenue UMC and traveled to nine locations to do hands-on mission. Clockwise from top left, volunteers work and tour: Redemption UMC, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Exodus House, Circle of Care Pearl’s Hope, and Restore Hope Ministries. Coordinating the overall effort was Jeff Jaynes, Restore Hope director, who said volunteers there packed 125 school supply kits, for junior-high students, and 84 housekeeping kits. "I know firsthand that these opportunities made a difference in the lives of the delegates, the work sites, and families in need, said Rev. Jaynes. Kate Pelizzoni, a Food Bank official, welcomed Bishop Hayes and youth delegates, who packaged cereals and shared a simple meal May 30. Official Ayschia Saiymeh at Global Gardens said, "The volunteers were awesome, a great bunch of people. Hard workers, too!" Other mission sites were two UM churches hosting Project Transformation, Oklahoma Methodist Manor, and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department. Susan Tulkin, with the Food Bank, tracked local media coverage by three TV stations and the Tulsa World. | |||
