Summer Camp News

4/20/2012

For youths:"Got Spirit? Finding God in the Everyday" (T’weens Discover Camp), entering grade 6. "Building New Community" (Wilderness Camp), entering grades 7 and 8. "Amazing Grace: United Methodists Are Full of It" (J.E.M. Camp) and "Ignite" (Journey Camp), both for those entering grades 6, 7, and 8.

Three Simple Rules" will open the summer season at Oklahoma’s three camping facilities.

Brand-new camps are planned this year, as well as new scheduling for some camps. The overall theme is Recreation in God’s World. Leaders and staff seek to create spiritual experiences—re-creation—amid natural settings. This purpose is indicated by some camp titles; see below.

Programming is designed for various ages, from kindergarteners to older adults, and for varied groups, from grandparents with their grandkids to single-parent families.

  • On May 18-20 at Cross Point Camp, "Three Simple Rules" will focus on the spiritual concerns of young adults, ages 18-25. Previously this young-adult camp was held in August. Pastor Terry Koehn of Elk City leads this program.

  • In September, Grand Camp is one of the new events, for grandparents and their grandchildren (kindergarten through sixth grade). This weekend getaway will be Sept. 7-9 at Canyon Camp. Theme is "Embracing This Time: Capturing the Moment."

  • Also new in September is Senior Adult Summit, for older adults. Date is Sept. 10-12 at Camp Egan.

Find details about all the programs in the booklet Summer Camps 2012 or online at www.okumc.org/camp.  Some programs are scheduled at all three camping facilities, and some at only one.
