Youngsters join in Easter Vigil
Confirmation classes from two churches were among the worshippers at Oklahoma City University’s second Easter Vigil, held April 7, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. More than 200 people gathered for the evening event, open to the public. The confirmation classes came from Enid-New Hope UMC and Stillwater-Highland Park UMC. Held at the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel on campus, the service was a modern interpretation of a traditional ritual from the early church. A new Paschal candle led a processional into the sanctuary, where the stories of creation, crossing the sea, and Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of the dry bones were presented through drama and dance. This was followed by a remembrance of baptism and by Holy Communion. Each participant was invited to take a shell from a vessel holding water as a symbol of baptism. The service concluded as the congregation sang, "We Are Marching in the Light of God," led by Erica Thomas, associate pastor at OKC-Quayle UMC.
