Esther Clarice Lorene Mabery Kay, 91, of Big Cabin died Feb. 27, 2012. She was the widow of Rev. Woodrow "Gene" Kay. Esther was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Vinita. She and Gene married in 1939. During World War II, she worked for DuPont. Her husband entered ministry in 1944, and she joined him in serving EUB and United Methodist churches in the state. In 1985 they retired to the Big Cabin area. Rev. Kay died in 2004. Survivors include a son, Joe, and two grandchildren. A daughter, Jeanne, also predeceased her. Memorial service was March 10 at Otterbein UMC. Patty Burns of Ardmore died March 5. She was the stepmother of Rev. Sharen Hale, an associate pastor at OKC-St. Luke’s. Donna Aileen Hawkins, 84, of Oklahoma City died Feb. 29, 2012. She was the wife of K. Norwood "Woody" Hawkins, a retired diaconal minister. Donna was born June 27, 1927, near Kremlin. She earned a master’s degree at Oklahoma A&M College. She taught at high schools and the University of Central Oklahoma, retiring in 1987. Donna and Woody married on June 6, 1959. His consecrated lay ministry, especially in music, included positions in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Chickasha. He retired in 1994. Donna also is survived by daughter Renee Stallings. Service was March 3 at Putnam City UMC, where she was a member. Charles McCartney of Oklahoma City died March 5. He was the son of Valerie and Rev. Raymond McCartney, retired. |
