OKC Thunder and Foundation partner for a life-saving cause
The Oklahoma United Methodist Foundation is partnering with the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team to present the OKC Thunder Nothing But Nets Night.
On April 13, as the Thunder takes on the Sacramento Kings, United Methodists will take on the deadly disease of malaria.
When tickets for the April 13 game are purchased through the Foundation, a portion of the price will go to Nothing But Nets. Tickets range from $10 to $86 and can be purchased by calling Barbara at the Foundation, 800-259-6863.
The game is an opportunity for churches’ youth groups, Sunday school classes, UMMen, UMWomen, and other groups to have a fun night out and support a worthy cause. The Nothing But Nets campaign raises money for life-saving bed nets in Africa, to block mosquitoes, which carry the disease and infect people through their bites. Malaria has ravaged populations in Africa.
From ticket sales and other contributions, the Foundation raised more than $20,000 last year through Nothing But Nets Night. With that money, Nothing But Nets provided more than 2,000 nets to children and families.
Nothing but Nets is supported by many organizations; The United Methodist Church and the NBA are founding groups.
