Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church

Camps goal: $175,000 Deadline: Dec. 31

12/9/2011

Camps leaders account for $150,000 in donations, thus far, as they count down to the final day of a campaign to build two new cabins at Canyon.

"We appreciate all who have stepped up to get us this far," said Camps Director Randy McGuire. "We can’t stop now."

Money gifts have ranged from $25 to $10,000-plus, sent by donors in the Panhandle, southwestern Oklahoma, and the state’s capital, among other locations, said Rev. McGuire. Supporters have included churches, United Methodist Men, youth groups, and anonymous individuals.

If the goal is met by Dec. 31, the funds will be combined with a generous $175,000 matching grant by Paul Milburn of Shawnee, providing $350,000 for the Canyon Camp project. At the United Methodist facility near Hinton, 18 aging cabins have housed campers for more than 50 years.
