Rev. Thomas Veal Buck, 64, of Ardmore died Oct. 13, 2011. He pastored in Oklahoma and North Texas Conferences. Tom was born March 7, 1947, in Ardmore. At age 6, he accepted Christ as his Savior. He began singing solos in church at age 13 and later was a choir director. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He married Linda Youngblood on May 25, 1967. In 1973, he was licensed by the Florida Conference. In Oklahoma in the ’70s, he pastored Durant-Wesley Chapel, Achille-First, and Aline-First, and was Christian Education Minister at Central UMC, Enid. He studied at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Phillips seminary (Enid), and Perkins School of Theology, and was licensed by the North Texas Conference in 1997. He served in Texas until 2006. In retirement, the Bucks were active at Ardmore-First UMC. Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; three children, Karen Haufler of Houston, Kirk Buck of Ardmore, and Kimberly Grundy of Groton, Conn.; and six grandchildren. Memorial service was Oct. 17 at Ardmore-First. Lawanda Lea Majors, 84, of Oklahoma City died Oct. 25, 2011. She was the wife of Rev. Robert L. Majors, retired pastor and former district superintendent. Lawanda was born April 18, 1927, in Altus. She was an OCU graduate. Lawanda and Robert married on Sept. 2, 1951. Survivors include her husband of 60 years; son Robleigh Majors, St. Louis, Mo.; and a grandson. Funeral was Oct. 31 at Moore-First UMC, with burial in Altus. Long, director of Religious Life at Oklahoma City University. |
