Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church

Lawton District partnering with Bolivians

10/21/2011

A new partnership will be celebrated by the people of the Lawton District on Oct. 30, during a district-wide banquet at 5:30 p.m. at Duncan-First UMC.

The District Council has accepted an invitation to partner with Methodists of Cobija, Bolivia, to build a facility for the "mother church" in that remote city. Even without a building of its own, this "mother church" in the Amazon jungle has planted several new churches and established new worshipping communities.

When Ken Baden, missions coordinator for Lawton District, traveled to Bolivia, a connection was established.

The new collaboration will be introduced at the 2011 Lawton District Banquet. A Methodist singing group from Bolivia will perform, and master of ceremonies will be Rev. Baden, pastor of Lawton-Wesley Chapel UMC.

Special presenters will be clergymen Modesto Mamani of Bolivia and David Stephenson of Oklahoma, representing the ongoing covenant work by the people called Methodists in both Oklahoma and Bolivia.
