Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church

Mathison to present at Lawton

'Reaching New People/Making New Christians'

Leaders want "Reaching New People/Making New Christians," a training conference on Nov. 19 at Lawton-First UMC, to revolutionize the way most churches approach evangelism.

The one-day conference "needs to be on every church leader’s ‘must attend’ list," they declared in announcements.

Plenary speaker is the acclaimed John Ed Mathison of Alabama, who helmed the growth of Frazer Memorial UMC in Montgomery from 400 members to more than 8,800, with a television audience of 40 million homes. The retired clergyman now leads John Ed Mathison Leadership Ministries.

Rev. Dr. Mathison has served as platform speaker for the National Conference of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a seminar speaker at the Billy Graham Training Center. He has written seven books.

In addition to Mathison’s presentations in Lawton, eight workshops will be offered. The training will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with lunch catered by Luigi’s Italian Restaurant, a Lawton landmark.

The program is offered through the "New Christians" initiative of the Oklahoma Conference Discipleship Ministries Team evangelism task force.

Registration fee, $10, includes lunch.
