'The Spirituality of Shopping'

Willson Lectures:

"The Spirituality of Shopping" is the topic Nov. 10 for the 2011 Willson Lectures at Oklahoma City University. All lectures are free and open to the public.

Three presentations will be given by Michelle Gonzalez, associate professor of Religious Studies at the University of Miami.

  • What Does Jerusalem Have To Say to Madison Avenue? Shopping in Scripture. This first talk will be part of the weekly worship service, at 1 p.m. in the Smith Chapel on campus.

  • Consumerism and Religion. At 3 p.m. in Watson Lounge, on the basement level of the Smith Chapel building.

  • Is Shopping a Sin? At 7 p.m. in Watson Lounge.

Dr. Gonzalez’ writing and teaching interests have included Latina/o and feminist theologies and Afro-Caribbean studies. An author, one of her most recent books is "Shopping: Christian Explorations of Daily Living" (2010). She received her Ph.D. at Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, Calif., in 2001.
