In memoriam

Jane Stewart

Jane Evelyn Regier Stewart, 65, of Bartlesville died Sept. 25, 2010. She was the wife of Rev. David Stewart, pastor at Oak Park UMC.

Jane was born March 31, 1945, in Wyandotte, Mich. She held a business accounting degree from Oklahoma State University. The Stewarts were married for 43 years.

She served as Conference treasurer for United Methodist Women and in leadership for the annual Mission Schools in the Oregon-Idaho Conference.

Later she worked in the Tulsa office of the Oklahoma United Methodist Foundation.

Survivors also include her mother, Eunice Regier of Tulsa; two daughters, Amy Stewart-Deaker of Alameda, Calif., and Laura Weaver of Portland, Ore.; and three grandchildren. Service was Oct. 2 at Bartlesville-First UMC.

 

Madine Welsh

Bell Madine Welsh, 90, of Oklahoma City died Sept. 29, 2010. She was Rev. Delos Welsh’s widow.

Madine was born Nov. 30, 1919, to William and Belle Ashmore. She was a member of OKC-Church of the Servant.

Survivors include daughter Kathy Joy of Oklahoma City.

Memorial service was Oct. 2 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Chapel in Bethany.

 

Gloria Sanders

Gloria Belle Williams Sanders, 79, of Oklahoma City died Sept. 12, 2010. She was the widow of Rev. James E. Sanders.

Gloria Belle was born July 4, 1931, in Oak Park, Ill. She met James Sanders while at Cornell College. When he died, in 1989, they had been married 37 years. She was a retired teacher and a member of OKC-Asbury.

Survivors include six children: Margo Hixon, Macy Reynolds, Jason Sanders, David Sanders, Brian Sanders, and Barry Sanders.

Service was Sept. 18 at OKC-Asbury UMC.

Joyce Sebastian

N. Joyce Pledger Baskin Sebastian, 78, of Vinita died Sept. 4, 2010. She was the widow of Rev. LeRoy "Skip" Sebastian.

Joyce was born March 25, 1932, in Havana, Ark. In her youth, she was president of the Arkansas Youth for Christ. She worked as a secretary.

Survivors include sons Garth Baskin of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Blake Baskin of Claremore; daughter Brenda Darnell of Vinita; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joyce was predeceased by her first husband, Garth Baskin, and Rev. Sebastian died in 2002.

Service was Sept. 9 at the Havana, Ark., Assembly of God.

 

  • Wanda Potts, 85, died Oct. 11. She was the mother of Rev. Mickey Potts, retired, and mother-in-law of Rev. Bert Potts, pastor at Edmond-First.

  • Bernice Brannon, 91, died Aug. 28 in Broken Arrow. She was the mother of Rev. Calvin Brannon, associate pastor at McFarlin UMC, in Norman.

Birth

Micah Shahan was born Sept. 30, 2010. He is the son of Aly and Rev. Adam Shahan. Adam is pastor at Lexington UMC, and Aly is coordinator of the Local Church Leaders Workshops, on staff at the United Methodist Ministry Center.
