Retiring clergy to be honored


Emler leads retirees with 49 service years

After a ministry career spanning 49 years, Professor Don Emler will retire at Annual Conference, at Boston Avenue church in Tulsa on May 30-June 2.

Rev. Dr. Emler is among 18 clergy on the 2010 official retirement list. During the Tulsa conference, they will be recognized in ceremonies at 11 a.m. Tuesday (June 1). The program will include a multimedia presentation, performance by a retirees choir, and the ritual passing of the mantle.

Emler has been teaching at Oklahoma City University since 1989. He is the professor of religion in OCU’s Wimberly School of Religion.

His career began in 1961 in the Missouri West Conference, and he was ordained as an elder in 1963.
