10/30/2015
OCU President Robert Henry speaks in a proclamation ceremony at the Chickasaw Warrior Garden on campus Oct. 12, which was declared Indigenous Peoples’ Day at OCU. He acted in support of Native American culture and campus diversity on a day that is traditionally observed as Columbus Day. Henry told how the Lakota Sioux tribe encourages its people to organize their lives, learn new things, and listen to the opinions of others. Sharon Yeahquo of Clark Memorial UMC, Del City, sang a Choctaw hymn; Cortney Yarholar of the Sac & Fox and Creek nations performed a drum song, and Superintendent David Wilson of the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference gave opening remarks.
