Seeing all the people includes older adults

Younger and more diverse

While our conference has been focusing on becoming younger and more diverse, we recognize that our congregations are multi-generational and the elderly are often forgotten and can feel left out.  This event is designed to get important information to church leaders – both lay and clergy.

Dementia in Oklahoma

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, adults over the age of 65 with dementia is expected to rise by 18% between 2018 and 2025.  There are currently 233,000 Oklahomans caring for one with Alzheimer’s.  Is your church ready?  Have you thought about how you will continue to be welcoming those to with this prevalent disease?  Tulsa was recently named the first “Dementia Friendly Community” in Oklahoma!

Come for a day of learning and fellowship.

We will worship together, hear two great keynotes and two workshops filled with useful information for your church.  You can also meet some great resource people in your area.
“Communities that encourage the contributions of older adults are stronger! By engaging and supporting all community members, we recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks, and lives.”

Older Adult Awareness Month

Our event is being held in conjunction with Older Adult Awareness Month. The 2019 theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older adults and their communities to:
  • Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
  • Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
  • Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.

Keynote Speaker— Missy Buchanan

Noted author/writer and speaker on topics of aging and faith, Missy Buchanan will be the keynote speaker.  She appeared on Good Morning America with co-anchor Robin Roberts and her mother, Lucimarian Roberts. The elder Mrs. Roberts personally found Buchanan’s books to be a great source of encouragement and comfort. Her address is titled “The Journey of Aging in a Fast-Changing World: Helping older adults to connect, create and contribute.”
