Fully Rely On God: Leaping into UMW’s Future
I want to thank all of you for working so hard this past year to Make It Happen: Turning Faith, Hope, and Love into Action! We had wonderful events—Spiritual Growth Retreat, Assembly 2014, Social Justice Event, Mission u, Toole Tyme, and NSO Santa Operation. Felicity Frog, a gift from the Conference leadership team given to me at Toole Tyme, has accompanied me to several events. We’re looking forward to many more trips together in 2015!
Some of you have agreed to serve on Transition Teams preparing for our redistricting that will happen for United Methodist Women effective January 1, 2016. Thanks for agreeing to do the work to make that happen. The new districts will organize, elect officers, adopt budgets and pledges to mission, and approve standing rules following lunch at the Conference Annual Meeting in Woodward, October 3, 2015. We’re asking each unit in the Oklahoma Conference to send two representatives to Woodward FUMC. We want to have good representation in all the district meetings. District officer training for all new district officers will be at Sunnylane UMC, Del City, on October 24th. We will go forward Fully Relying on God: Leaping into UMW’s Future!!
The new date, March 23, for Day at the Legislature should assure that we won’t be competing with snow and ice. Hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. Judy Horne, our conference musician, is also our Spiritual Growth Retreat leader, April 24-26, 2015, at Canyon Camp. Judy, Becky Brown, and Jacci Freno are working hard to provide us with an inspiring weekend. Please make plans to attend. Registration form is in this issue, on our website www.okumc.org/umw program tab and at your district events.
I’m also looking forward to the South Central Jurisdiction Quadrennial Meeting on April 15-17, 2016, at the Renaissance Hotel and Cox Convention Center. The theme for the event is A Fresh Wind Blowing. Beverly Parker, President of the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference, and I are meeting with the jurisdiction leadership team making plans for the event. We will be calling on our UMW district teams and local units to help make this the best Quadrennial Meeting ever.
Mission u will be July 17-20 at OCU. Dean Rev. Derrek Belase and Assistant Dean Jo Ellen Reed, have secured the study leaders and will be attending training in late spring. The team has listened to your evaluations and I think you will be pleased with the facility changes that will be made. You’ll notice that information and a registration form are included in this issue. The next issue will go out in the church’s Contact. You will also be able to get it on our website www.okumc.org/umw program tab and at conference and district events.
Preparations are under way for District Days Apart, District and Conference Annual Meetings, Toole Tyme and NSO Santa Operation. These events help us further the PURPOSE that begins in our local units—to become whole persons in Jesus Christ, create a supportive community, and expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. May God bless our efforts to carry out our PURPOSE!
