CVLI Video License

Many churches might not realize that showing a video or movie to a group without the owner's authorization is copyright infringement and carries fines ranging from $500 to $20,000, even if the screener (i.e. the church, church staff or a member) is a non-profit organization and doesn't charge admission.

  • It is against the law to show a video to a church Sunday School class, UMW, UMM, church service, or other programming of your church.
  • It is against the law to invite the youth group over to a house and show a movie, also, without video coverage.

A video license is available for purchase that will allow your church to show videos borrowed from Oklahoma Media Center, or any kind of video store.

A new service that was begun in 2003, provided by United Methodist Communications (UMCom) in Nashville, will enable churches and groups of churches to obtain licenses to show videos and/or DVDs of motion pictures. The service is a result of an agreement between UMCom and Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI). Under this new agreement, The Oklahoma Conference Media Center will process orders, collect fees (based on membership figures), and distribute the licensing.
