Chapel honors military personnel, OCU police

Military veterans and active-duty personnel who also are students, faculty, and staff of the OCU community were honored in a special chapel service on Oct. 27.

Also honored were the members of the OCU Police Department, for their work on behalf of the university.

Margaret Ball, vice president for University-Church Relations, led a special commendation and prayer of thanksgiving recognizing all the honorees. The bulletin listed names, branches, and dates of service.

Derrek Belase, pastor of Highland Park UMC in Stillwater, preached on "Humble Service."

Rev. Belase, a certified police officer in Oklahoma, holds an OCU master’s degree in Criminal Justice. Before his clergy career, he worked as a police dispatcher while in college and then as a law enforcement coordinator for the Oklahoma Department of Career Tech.
