A crowd of 500 took part in the first-ever "Day With the Bishop" on Sept. 19 at The Reed Center in Midwest City. In the morning, Mark Matheis from Disney Institute, shown above with Bishop Robert Hayes Jr., presented "Building a Business Through Storytelling." Drawing on Disney’s experience in the art of storytelling, he taught the components of a story, how to use stories to communicate, and how to practice building stories. Afternoon presenter was Mike Carrier, above left, president of the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau. Speaking about "Hospitality and Customer Service," he shared practical ideas to impact the culture of the church by creating a welcoming environment for members and guests. The program replaced the Bishop’s Retreats for clergy, held in past years, and attendance also was opened to laity.
