Rev. Jim Taylor

Rev. Dr. James Carol "Jim" Taylor, 77, of Oklahoma City, died June 20, 2011. His widow is Rev. Helen Taylor, retired.

Two memorial services will be held later this month: July 29 at First UMC in Sentinel, and July 30 at the Oklahoma City University chapel. Both are set for 2 p.m.

Jim was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Sentinel. He and Helen married on Dec. 16, 1954. His degrees included a doctorate from Yale University.

His ministry began in 1955 at Choctaw, and he retired in 1999. He taught at OCU for 14 years and also at Phillips seminary in Enid. Churches he served include Tulsa-Sheridan Avenue, Selecman in Del City, OKC-Crown Heights, OKC-Aldersgate, Jefferson, Renfrow, and Hooten Memorial. He had been a Jurisdictional Conference delegate.

Since retirement, the Taylors have been active at OKC-Leland Clegg.

He also is survived by a daughter, Janet Yeracaris of Newton, Mass.; son Peter Mercer-Taylor of Saint Paul, Minn.; and five grandchildren.

Graveside service was June 21 at Port Cemetery near Sentinel.

Mary Alice Wingate of Pensacola, Fla., died June 8. Revs. Steve and Wanda Littrell, her daughter, co-pastor at Carnegie and Mountain View.

Michael Ray "Mike" McCarty of Nowata died June 6. He was the son of Rev. Leonard McCarty, recently retired, of Vian, and brother of Rev. Darin McCarty.

Patricia Mary "Pat" Malloy died June 12 in Edmond. She was the mother of Rev. Tish Malloy, pastor at Moore-First.

Velma Ruth Ware, Alva, died June 14. She was the mother of Rev. Phil Ware, recently retired, of Bella Vista, Ark., and Rev. Scott Ware, pastor at Quinlan/Freedom. Granddaughter Debbie Ware works at the Ministry Center.
