HISTORIC MOMENT—In June, Guthrie-First UMC will receive a 2011 Citation of Merit from the State Historic Preservation Office of the Oklahoma Historical Society.

This special recognition is awarded for the church’s exemplary efforts in developing a preservation plan for its 100-year-old building. Major rehabilitative work is under way.

The honor will be presented in Guymon on June 9 during "Wide Open for Preservation," the society’s 23rd annual statewide preservation conference.

Mike DeMoss is pastor of the Guthrie church, founded in 1889 on the day of the Run for the Unassigned Lands in Indian Territory.
