Letter from the editor

1/8/2010

Occasionally the news is about the group that distributes the news—in this case, the Department of Communications for the Oklahoma Conference.

This new year brings a new publication schedule for Contact, the Conference’s newspaper.

Beginning with this issue, Contact will be printed every three weeks. A total of 17 issues will be delivered to you by mail.

This is a change from previous years. The paper’s distribution has followed a more varied track, typically biweekly, sometimes monthly.

We believe a more consistent plan is beneficial. Ministry in Jesus’ name is ongoing all year, as is the news of that great work. We hope a standardized reporting cycle helps engage, educate, and inspire you for that work in every time and place.

Specific church leaders receive free subscriptions annually. Paid subscriptions are $15; call 405-530-2075.

We continue our partnership with the award-winning United Methodist Reporter in Dallas, which provides all the national and global faith news you find in Section B.

On the Internet, anyone can freely access the Oklahoma United Methodist news in Section A. At www.okumc.org,  you will find links to view the newspaper in PDF format, to receive Contact Digest free via e-mail, and to search the news archive.

There is more news from the Communications department as this year unfolds. Find us on Facebook. You are invited to become a "Fan." Check out the Oklahoma United Methodist Communications Page on Facebook.

Also watch for other Web resources this department is designing. Especially exciting: video sharing is under development, plus a redesign of the Conference Web site.

A list of publication dates is at the end of this letter. Two exceptions to the three-week timeline will occur, to accommodate the 2010 Annual Conference schedule and the Thanksgiving holiday.
