Blake Huggins, center, reads aloud the names of Oklahoma military personnel who have died in Iraq. Huggins was part of a peace rally March 26. He is a religion major at Oklahoma City University. A group of about 15 OCU students, faculty, and friends gathered. The rally commemorated the fifth year of U.S. occupation in Iraq and affirmed a vision of reconciliation, healing, and hope, according to an e-mail statement from Jennifer Long, director of Religious Life at OCU. The group rallied at the Bishop Angie Smith Chapel and marched alongside N.W. 23rd Street, concluding with the reading of names and a time of silence outside the United Methodist Ministry Center.

Saint Paul School names dean

Elaine RobinsonElaine Robinson of Fort Worth, Texas, has been named dean of Saint Paul School of Theology at Oklahoma City University, as announced by Myron McCoy, president of Saint Paul School.

In July, Rev. Dr. Robinson will begin her responsibilities in Oklahoma City. Her title will be academic dean and associate professor of United Methodist Studies and Theology.

Robinson is currently associate professor of Theology and Methodist Studies at Brite Divinity School.

She is a theologian with expertise in Wesleyan theology, with secondary teaching fields in evangelism and homiletics. In 2006, she received the Louise Clark Brittan award for excellence in teaching.

She is an elder in the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church and a graduate of Perkins School of Theology and Emory University. She has served churches in North Georgia and Fort Worth.

Project aids military reservists

A new ministry with military reservists after they return home is being launched at 7 p.m. May 9 in Oklahoma City.

Care Ministries at OKC-Church of the Servant wants to help service personnel with family concerns they may face upon returning home. A get-acquainted event, "Faith and Fireworks Night," is being sponsored May 9 at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark, and includes a RedHawks baseball game.

Event for church historians

"I'm church historian. Now what do I do?"

The jurisdictional meeting for church historians and archivists will be held July 11-12 in Jacksonville, Texas. Workshops will offer techniques for digital preservation and restoring images, archiving how-to tips, a retention schedule for church archives, and field trips. Most sessions will be at Lon Morris College, 800 Jackson Ave., Jacksonville.

Professor receives grant

Ellen Jeffrey BlueTulsa professor Ellen Jeffrey Blue has been awarded a $30,000 grant for her project "In Case of Katrina: Reinventing The United Methodist Church in Post-Katrina Louisiana."

At Phillips Theological Seminary, Dr. Blue is the Mouzon Biggs Jr. Associate Professor of History and Christianity and United Methodist Studies. She received the Faculty Fellowship as part of the 2008-09 Lilly Theological Research Grants awarded by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada (ATS). Only 25 grants were given.

Blue wrote her dissertation on Methodist Women's history in New Orleans. She has led seminary students in two study trips to explore "The Church's Response to Katrina."

  • Abigail Hope was born April 11, 2008. Her parents are Toby and Rev. Jennifer Scott. She has an older brother, Charlie. Rev. Scott is pastor at Coppell-First UMC.
  • Bethany Faith was born April 16, 2008. She is the daughter of Melissa and Rev. Kevin Watson, pastor at Lamont United Methodist Church.
