| Rev. Dr. Cecil Bolding
Rev. Dr. Cecil L. Bolding, 88, of Duncan, died Nov. 9, 2009. Across four decades, he served churches in Oklahoma, retiring in 1985. Cecil was born March 2, 1921, at Floyada, Texas. He was a World War II veteran. He held a doctorate in Counseling, from Oklahoma State University. He was pastor for the Pickett Circuit, Sasakwa, Wapanucka, Muldrow, Jenks, Collinsville, Temple, Hastings, Sulphur-First, Eufaula, Duncan-Wesley, OKC-Selecman, Guthrie-West, OKC-Second Street, and Duncan-Stephens. In retirement, he was active at Duncan-First Church. He also was a Licensed Professional Counselor, and he taught English and speech in Muldrow. On Sept. 16, 2000, he married Barbara Ann Allred. Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home in Duncan; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; stepdaughter Susan Morrow of Longtown; stepson Jack Trammell of Mustang; four stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Two sons and two daughters predeceased him. Memorial service was Nov. 12 at Duncan-First. Rev. Mary Lou Martin Hartung Rev. Mary Lou Martin Hartung, a retired deacon, 74, of Tulsa, died Nov. 16, 2009. Mary Lou was born March 21, 1935, at Menlo, Iowa. She received a master’s degree in Theological Studies at Phillips Theological Seminary. Her ministry service began in 1994. She was a chaplain at Restore Hope Ministries in Tulsa; executive director of Operation Hope Prison Ministry; and chaplain at Inverness Village, a Tulsa retirement care facility. She held charge-conference membership at Tulsa-Asbury UMC. Survivors include her husband, Jack Hartung; three children, David Martin, Kathryn West, and Steven Martin; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services were Dec. 2, at Tulsa-Asbury and Inverness Village Founders Hall. Rev. Arthur Sanders Rev. Arthur Lark Sanders, 76, of Belton, Texas, died Oct. 1, 2009. He was born April 6, 1933, in Denver. He was a Local Pastor in Oklahoma in the 1970s. He also was a U.S. Army veteran and retired school bus driver. He served churches at Davidson, Loveland, Olustee, Elmer, Beggs, Vici, and Lenora. Survivors include his wife, Marianna Sanders of Belton; sons Richard Sanders of Wilsonville, Ore., and Timothy Sanders of Midland, Texas; daughters Patricia Burnett of Newberg, Ore., and Katherine Wilson of Victoria, Texas. He was predeceased by a son. Graveside services were held Oct. 7 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, with arrangements by Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Helen Martin Helen Wallis Martin, 84, of Norman died Oct. 20 at Grace Living Center in Norman. She was the widow of Rev. George Leroy Martin, who died in 2000. Helen was born June 26, 1925, in Brazil, Indiana. A registered nurse, she joined the Navy in 1947. She and Rev. Martin married on Sept. 14, 1952, in Memphis, Tenn. He was a Navy chaplain at the time. The Martins reportedly are among the first dual-career military couples, and they served together in Japan and statewide. The family moved to Norman in 1972, where she continued her career as a nurse. At McFarlin UMC, she was an active member of UMW and Douglas Bible Study. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Martin-Rivas, and two granddaughters. Funeral service was Oct. 27 at McFarlin, with arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell. Birth Hannah Grace Smith was born Nov. 18, 2009. She is the daughter of Abby and Rev. Spencer Smith, an associate pastor at Tulsa-Asbury UMC. Appointments Michael Mahaffey to Fairview at Slapout/Catesby (Woodward District) from Fletcher (Lawton), effective Nov. 1. |
