From the UMW President August 2014
I trust you’ve had a fun summer! I started to say “relaxing summer,” but it seems like summer is as busy as any other time of year. Our family has had some nice times together this summer. The grandchildren got some cousin time, and we all got to visit with extended family. Precious memories…how they linger.
Our first Social Justice Event in June was a great success! Thanks to everyone who made that happen. As I write, Mission U is just a few days away, and I’m anticipating a great four days with UMW sisters and friends “Learning Together for the Transformation of the World.” Thanks to Dean Rev. Derrek Belase and Jo Ellen Reed, the study leaders, and OCU for their hospitality.
Upcoming is our Conference Annual Meeting at Ada-First UMC, October 3-4. The Ardmore District and Ada United Methodist Women have been planning and working since the 2013 Annual Meeting ended. I’m looking forward to our time together.
Our conference officer structure is changing for 2015!! And that means there are some changes this year in our District Officer Training that will take place again during an extended lunch hour. There will be job specific training classes for: District Presidents District Chairs of Nominations District Secretaries District Program Resources District Treasurers District Communications Coordinators
Also, there will be a new “Visioning Class.” You are Invited to this class if you are a District Vice-president, Spiritual Growth, Membership Nuture & Outreach, Education & Interpretation, or Social Action Coordinator. You are invited to attend this class if you would be interested in serving on the conference Programming, Membership, or Missions Committee, or would serve on a task force for a specific event or job. You could serve for one specific event or task, or serve on a committee for a year. Committee members could be asked to serve up to 4 years. These opportunities do not involve being elected as an officer. You would not be required to attend conference leadership team meetings.
Maybe you could work on publicity for the Spiritual Growth Retreat, maybe you have the skills to be registrar for Annual Meeting, maybe you’d be interested helping plan our next Social Justice Event, or new event at the church’s Annual Conference. The possibilities are endless. If you would like to attend this class, please mark it on your registration form. Ann Needham Bower will be leading this class.
If you choose not to attend the Visioning Class, there is a special emphasis class that will have two speakers: Mark Ellis will speak on “Positive Results for Mixing Generations,” and Janet Winter will be speaking on “Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Issues.” It should be a very informative, motivating, and inspirational day.
See you there!
Blessings, Cindy Hull
